FRACURE HELPS WIDEN AUCKLAND AIRPORT RUNWAY
|
Brian Perry Civil has spent many years widening the Auckland International Airport
runway & hard-stand areas.
With over 50cm thick concrete being laid, it was very important that the moisture
within the concrete was retained and that the concrete therefore cured very slowly.
By keeping the moisture content high, the concrete was assured of developing
its maximum strength and helped to minimise any shrinkage cracking that might
occur.
|
To provide the level of curing efficiency needed, two curing compounds
manufactured by Fraser Brown & Stratmore Ltd were used in addition to water
curing. These were Fracure Emulsion (an acrylic emulsion) and Fracure Wax
Emulsion.
|
Fracure Emulsion (as a higher-solids version, Fracure 3109) and Fracure Wax
Emulsion have been tested by BRANZ, with water retention efficiencies of 84%
and 96% respectively under AS 3799 test conditions. The test stipulates that
the treated specimens (curing compound applied at 5m2 per litre) are placed in
a controlled environment chamber and maintained at 38 +/- 2oC and 32 +/- 2%
relative humidity for 72 hours. The moisture loss was determined by weighing
the specimens at the beginning and end of the 72 hours. These are harsh criteria
and therefore the levels of efficiency achieved are excellent, with Fracure Wax
Emulsion passing the Efficiency Index of 90% as required by AS3799 and Fracure
Emulsion passing the ASTM C309 requirement of < 0.55 kg/m2 (result 0.39 kg/m2).
|
For the Auckland airport job, originally Fracure Emulsion was supplied. FB&S
was then requested to provide the curing compounds in a white pigmented form
to help reflect the heat of the sun away from the concrete surface. White pigmented
curing compounds are used extensively in the USA on motorway and other large
scale concrete projects for this reason.
Being a local manufacturer, FB&S was able to quickly modify the curing compounds
and supply to Brian Perryís requirements. Over 10,000 litres of Fracure
Emulsion/Fracure Wax Emulsion have been used
on this project and successfully
contributed to the
proper curing of this
demanding concrete
application.

New Business Development Manager
|
We are pleased to advise that Craig Meiklejohn has joined Fraser Brown &
Stratmore Limited as our new Business Development Manager.
Craig brings his experience in sales and running his own business to this
position. He is a keen sports fan and is very involved in Soccer in the Upper
Hutt region, both with coaching and playing. Craigís father was a founding
member of the Tararua Sports Club in Upper Hutt and Craig is proud to still be
a playing member of Upper Hutt Premier 1st Team.
Craig has made it his priority to meet with our customers in the coming months
and looks forward to developing close relationships.
Craig takes over from Jeremy Mallender who has left after 12 years with FB&S
to pursue a career with Bostik NZ. We wish him well in his new position.
We also wish to advise that Carl Bigley has left Fraser Brown & Stratmore to
pursue his own business ventures.

KIM Provides Waterproofing System for Upmarket Kohimarama House
|
KIM (Krystol Internal Membrane) was used as the waterproofing additive for this house in Kohimarama,
Auckland. With the below ground construction requiring waterproofing due to the proximity to the harbour, KIM
was a logical choice enabling the concrete to be waterproofed
internally without the need for additional waterproofing membranes.
Innovative, award-winning Krystol Internal MembraneTM (or KIMTM)
is the world's leading and original integral crystalline concrete
waterproofing admixture. KIM eliminates the need for conventional
external waterproofing membranes. It saves time, money and hassles,
both at the construction site and over the lifetime of the concrete
structure.
By doing away with the need to leave space for applying external
membranes, KIM provided the maximum design flexibility. It allows
the largest possible building footprint, enabling architects to realize
the greatest possible value for the property. KIM is also ideal for
blind wall applications, where there is no space to apply external membrane systems.
KIM grows crystals that fill the pores and capillaries of the concrete, blocking the passage of water,
over the life of the concrete. KIM works equally as well with ordinary water or seawater.
In addition, KIM is the first concrete admixture to be certified by the International Code Council -
Evaluation Service (ICC-ES) as a Chemical Admixture Used in Concrete (AC198).
|
The Krystol Waterstop SystemTM utilizes two products rich in crystalline
chemical reactive technology, Krystol Waterstop GroutTM and Krystol Waterstop
TreatmentTM, both featuring a distinctive coloured tint that makes them easy
to identify and inspect. The system is quick and easy to install. A triangleshaped
strip of Krystol Waterstop Grout is added at the site where a new
wall is to be poured. Once the grout has cured, a layer of Krystol
Waterstop Treatment is applied,
and the wall can be poured as
normal. The advantage of the Krystol
Waterstop System is that it does not require any minimum
concrete cover and is virtually impossible to damage during construction.
Since it's easy to retrofit, the Krystol Waterstop System comes to the
rescue when other joint sealing or filling systems fail.
The Krystol Waterstop System may be used in conjunction with the other
KrystolTM Concrete Waterproofing Systems to provide a waterproofing
solution that lasts for the life of the concrete structure.
